External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during a Rajya Sabha debate, disclosed that President Trump and Prime Minister Modi did not have any phone conversations between April 22 and June 16. He also underscored India’s insistence on bilateral discussions with Pakistan, with a request for a ceasefire to come through the DGMO. Jaishankar also criticized Congress for being ‘uncomfortable with history’ and questioned their handling of the Indus Water Treaty. He referred to Jawaharlal Nehru’s remarks in 1960 on the treaty and suggested that the current government has corrected the previous approaches to the Indus Water Treaty and Article 370.
