India has achieved a significant milestone in its defense capabilities with the successful test of the K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile. Fired from the INS Arihant, the K-4 demonstrated its formidable reach of 3,500 kilometers and its high-speed, hypersonic trajectory, surpassing Mach 5. This development is a critical component of India’s nuclear triad, bolstering its ability to project power and maintain strategic stability. The missile is engineered with features designed for advanced warfare, including extreme speed to overcome enemy air defenses, a heavy payload capacity for conventional or nuclear payloads, a radar-absorbent composite body for stealth, and pinpoint accuracy through satellite navigation. Having successfully completed its third test, the K-4 is on track for operational deployment. This advancement represents a substantial enhancement of India’s strategic deterrence, offering a robust response to evolving security threats.
