The Asia Cup has always been a battleground for intense competition and unforgettable performances. The introduction of the T20 format in 2016 mirrored the global shift towards this dynamic, shorter version of cricket. As the 2025 Asia Cup approaches on September 9, anticipation builds to see who will lead the Indian team this time.

India has only played in the T20 Asia Cup twice, in 2016 and 2022. Remarkably, only two players have held the captaincy position.

MS Dhoni led India in the first-ever T20 Asia Cup in 2016. His cool-headed approach and ability to finish matches helped India achieve an unbeaten run, ultimately winning the trophy. This was a successful beginning for India in the T20 Asia Cup.

Rohit Sharma became captain in 2022. Known for his tactical brilliance and aggressive batting, Sharma led India in a highly competitive tournament. Although India didn’t win the title, his leadership played a significant role in shaping the team’s T20 strategy.

The T20 Asia Cup captaincy list for India includes only MS Dhoni (2016) and Rohit Sharma (2022). As the 2025 Asia Cup approaches, the main question is whether Suryakumar Yadav will captain the team or if a new name will join this exclusive group. Starting September 9, all eyes will be on who is chosen to captain India in the prestigious continental showdown.
