Ahead of the second Test, young pacer Harshit Rana was released from the Indian squad. The team departed from Leeds for Birmingham, but Rana was not included in the travel. He was added as a backup player. Gambhir had mentioned that Rana was brought in due to a minor concern within the team, but as the issue was resolved, Rana was sent back. India lost the first Test at Headingley, despite scoring 835 runs, including five centuries. Ben Duckett’s performance of 149 set the tone for England’s record chase. The match between India and England saw a combined total of 1673 runs. England won the match by successfully chasing 371 runs on the final day.
