Following the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of over 240 individuals, a Parliamentary Standing Committee has begun an inquiry. The committee has summoned Civil Aviation Secretary, Samir Kumar Sinha, along with other high-ranking aviation officials and Boeing executives to answer questions about safety protocols, regulatory failures, and flying practices. The panel, led by Sanjay Jha, will examine the causes of the crash and the current status of aviation safety in India. Air India and aviation regulators will also be asked about their adherence to international safety standards. The AAIB is in the process of analyzing the cockpit voice and flight data recorders (black boxes) with the support of U.S. agencies, with initial findings expected within weeks and a full report in the coming months. The DGCA has also initiated a comprehensive safety audit of Air India, covering the airworthiness and maintenance of its Boeing Dreamliners. The parliamentary panel is also likely to investigate pilot working hours, fleet management, and aircraft maintenance procedures. This investigation seeks to improve operational procedures, and hold all responsible parties accountable, influencing future air safety policies.
