In a remarkable display of engagement with India’s naval prowess, President Droupadi Murmu experienced a dived sortie aboard the indigenously built Kalvari-class submarine, INS Vaghsheer. The maritime exercise, conducted from the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka, represents a significant moment for the nation’s defense sector. The President, accompanied by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, explored the capabilities of this advanced underwater vessel.

This dived sortie is a historic achievement, with President Murmu becoming the second President of India to undertake such an endeavor, following the esteemed Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The President was briefed on the critical strategic role of the submarine force, its operational strengths, and its contribution to securing India’s maritime borders. She extended her commendations to the crew of INS Vaghsheer, praising their high standards of professionalism and selfless service, and identified the submarine as a proud symbol of Indian naval excellence and national security commitment.
