National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is accelerating its growth engine to support India’s development goals by 2047. CMD Brajendra Pratap Singh shared exclusive insights into a 0.5 million tonne capacity hike and a shift towards green energy.

With Rs 30,000 crore earmarked for 2030, the expansion features a new smelter and 1,080 MW power plant at Angul. Consultants are racing to complete DPRs this month, targeting swift board clearance.

This brownfield initiative at the existing smelter will deploy world-class green technologies to cater to booming local demand, wrapping up by decade’s end.

Over the next three years, NALCO prioritizes the fifth refinery stream and Pottangi mines launch in June, alongside a 60,000-tonne wire rod facility for premium outputs.

Competitive strengths shine through captive resources. Unlike peers Vedanta and Hindalco, NALCO’s in-house bauxite and coal mines ensure lower costs and seamless integration, fueling market dominance.

NALCO’s blueprint exemplifies how public sector enterprises can drive innovation, balancing massive scale-up with environmental stewardship to forge India’s industrial future.
