Raipur, November 09, 2025/The Biofuel and Bioenergy Expo was organized by the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority at the local Shriram Business Park in the capital Raipur from November 7 to 9. On this occasion, detailed discussions were held on biofuel technology in a seminar organized on the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Roadmap Vision 2024-29. CEO of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, Mr. Sumit Sarkar, while discussing Chhattisgarh’s biofuel roadmap, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai, initiatives are being taken to make the state a leading state in the field of biofuel.

CEO Mr. Sumit Sarkar informed that private companies are investing approximately Rs 3,500 crore in Chhattisgarh in line with the Chhattisgarh Industrial Policy 2024-2030. OGMCs like Gail and BPCL have started the process of establishing 8 MSW/biomass-based compressed biogas plants in various ULBs. ONGC Green and HPCL Green are currently surveying various locations for establishing CBG production units.

Feedstock-based trials are being conducted in the state to produce bioethanol and compressed biogas using residues of rice, maize, and gram. Along with this, enzyme production trials and enrichment of new microbial strains are being done using agricultural waste as substrate. He informed that in the field of bio-aviation fuel, CBDA is now preparing to produce biomass-based hydrogen, which will later be used for SAF production through Hydroprocessed Ester and Fatty Acid technology.

Chhattisgarh has already developed a standard operating procedure for bioethanol production using surplus rice as the primary feedstock. Recently, in collaboration with the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, CBDA has started trials on beetroot cultivation at the Biofuel Complex site, Village Godhi, District Durg, to establish an alternative feedstock. The next step is to test its potential for ethanol production, which will aid in achieving India’s 20 percent blending target and beyond, ensuring the continued success of this initiative.

In this seminar, Gail’s CGM Mr. Mohammad Najeeb Qureshi and DGM Jitendra Pandey provided information about the pipeline network of city gas distribution in Chhattisgarh. BPCL’s DGM Mr. Sanjay Thakur gave a presentation on the potential of compressed biogas in Chhattisgarh. Similarly, Reliance Industries’ DGM Mr. Sushil Verma provided information about compressed biogas production from paddy.

Similarly, Founder Director of Revy Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Vanita Prasad spoke about the operation of biogas plants, Director of Atriem Innovations Pvt. Ltd. Pune, Mr. Rajesh Date, about the anaerobic composting system, Managing Director of Ingrotech Aqua Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Sambalpur, Mr. Sukant Kumar Meher, about the potential of compressed biogas production from STP plants, and CEO of AEC Agritch Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Jitendra Narayan, about compressed biogas policy, procurement, and pricing.
