At WWDC 2025, Apple introduced new features for AirPods, changing the way users interact with their devices. The iOS 26 update brings significant enhancements to AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2, providing tools for content creation, communication, and camera functionality.

During the WWDC 2025 keynote on June 9, the updates were presented, and they will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The new functionalities include studio-quality voice recording, remote camera control, and improved call clarity through Voice Isolation.

For content creators, Apple has integrated ‘studio-quality audio recording’ into AirPods. Using the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and Apple’s audio technology, the AirPods are designed to deliver improved voice clarity. This feature works across various apps, including Voice Memos, FaceTime, Messages dictation, and third-party apps like Webex. It also supports CallKit, which means that many calling apps will provide enhanced audio quality when using these AirPods.

Moreover, the update allows AirPods to function as a remote control for the iPhone or iPad camera. Users can initiate and halt video recordings or snap photos by pressing and holding the AirPods stem within the Camera app or any compatible application. This simplifies the process for capturing content without needing direct access to the device.

These updates are presently accessible for developers via the Apple Developer Program and will be released to the public next month through the Apple Beta Software Program. Apple plans a free firmware update this autumn, which necessitates iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS Tahoe 26. Some features may have regional limitations, and support could differ based on local laws and languages. These upgrades underscore Apple’s objective to transform AirPods into adaptable, multi-use gadgets that surpass their traditional function as audio accessories.
