The Indian Premier League (IPL), a prominent cricket tournament usually held from March to May, is implementing changes that will affect ticket prices. A significant development is the increase in the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on IPL tickets from 28% to 40%. This higher tax rate is applicable only to IPL matches, differing from other domestic and international cricket games, which maintain an 18% GST. Consequently, fans will need to pay more to attend IPL matches, which will impact the price of tickets in the upcoming 2026 season. A ticket priced at INR 500 will now cost INR 700. Tickets at INR 1000 will now be INR 1400, and tickets costing INR 2000 will now be INR 2800. The price increase will affect all categories of seats. It is advisable for fans to plan and buy tickets ahead of time. Booking via official channels is a recommended measure to avoid inflated prices on the resale market.
