Israel has initiated a major airstrike on Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, targeting Houthi rebels. The focus of the attack was on energy centers within Sanaa, which is currently under Houthi control.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on its social media channels that multiple military targets, associated with the Houthi regime in Sanaa, were struck. This included a military site near the presidential palace, the Adar and Hizaz power plants, and a fuel storage facility, all utilized for the Houthi regime’s military activities. These strikes were carried out in response to continuous missile and UAV attacks on Israel by the Houthis. The IDF asserted that the Houthis, supported by Iran, are exploiting civilian infrastructure for terrorist activities.

The IDF specified that the targeted sites were used by the Houthis for terrorist operations. The strikes were labeled as retaliatory. The Houthi group has recently launched attacks against Israel using missiles and UAVs. The Houthi organization receives support and funding from Iran.

Al Jazeera, citing Houthi-affiliated sources, reported at least two fatalities and five injuries resulting from the Israeli airstrike in the Yemeni capital. The Israeli military confirmed that it targeted Houthi military infrastructure, which included a location near the presidential palace and the Asar and Hizaz power plants.

The airstrikes involved approximately a dozen Israeli Air Force planes and refuellers. The military indicated that the actions were taken in response to ongoing attacks on Israel carried out by the Houthis.
