For almost two years, Israel and the Houthis have been exchanging attacks. While Israeli actions have curbed attacks from Hezbollah and Hamas, the Houthis persist in their attacks on Israel. On Sunday morning, the Israeli military launched a series of attacks against the Houthis, targeting Sana’a, Yemen, specifically the Haziz power station to the south of the city. This station is considered a vital hub for providing electricity to the capital. According to sources from the Yemeni Civil Defense Department, the strikes damaged the station’s generators, shutting them down and cutting off power to the area. The Israeli Navy was later confirmed to be behind the operation. Hazem al-Asad, a member of the Houthi political bureau, condemned the attacks, stating that Israel is intentionally targeting essential service facilities and harming the Yemeni people. The Houthis claim these attacks are directly targeting civilians. The attacks are occurring during a period when Yemen is conducting military operations in support of Gaza and targeting Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red and Arabian Seas. The Yemeni armed forces have consistently said they will continue these operations until Israel ends its attacks on Gaza and lifts the siege. In response to the Houthi attacks, Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom have launched strikes on Houthi positions and civilian infrastructure in Yemen, resulting in civilian deaths.
