India’s diplomatic calendar is buzzing with transatlantic outreach. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met a high-profile US congressional delegation in New Delhi on Sunday, joined by Representative Mike Rogers, Adam Smith, Jimmy Patronis, and Ambassador Eric Garcetti.

The agenda packed in efforts to bolster bilateral relations, Indo-Pacific progress, and perspectives on the Ukraine conflict. In a post on X, Jaishankar described it as a “great conversation,” noting congressional exchanges as a vital thread in the India-US tapestry.

Contextualizing the meet, it follows Jaishankar’s January 18 session with Senator Steve Daines, centered on the strategic pillars of their alliance. The minister appreciated the thorough, frank discussion on bilateral dynamics.

A January 13 telephonic review with Secretary Marco Rubio touched base on Indo-Pacific civil nuclear energy, trade dialogues, and security cooperation. Rubio extended congratulations on India’s nuclear energy advancement bill, hailing it as a framework booster.

Jaishankar recapped talks on trade, minerals, nuclear ties, defense, and energy, pledging ongoing contact. Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott detailed Rubio’s focus on amplifying nuclear cooperation, US business prospects, energy security, and mineral supply resilience.

Shared views on regional evolution reinforced pledges for an open Indo-Pacific. Garcetti called it a constructive call, advancing trade negotiations, mineral strategies, and nuclear legislation for the next phase.

These successive interactions highlight a maturing partnership navigating geopolitical headwinds. From energy innovation to security synergies, India and the US are scripting a collaborative path forward, with legislative bridges playing a starring role.
