A moment of confusion between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill resulted in Jaiswal’s dismissal for 175 on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies, leaving the young batter visibly disheartened. The incident occurred at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, cutting short a potentially record-breaking innings.

Jaiswal, who had reached 173 overnight, attempted a quick single in the 92nd over. However, a momentary hesitation from non-striker Shubman Gill proved costly. Jaiswal’s urgent call for a run was met with uncertainty from his partner, leading to a critical delay. By the time the throw reached the stumps, Jaiswal was unable to make his ground, resulting in a run-out.

The left-hander’s frustration was palpable; he slammed his forehead and was heard exclaiming that the decision to run was his. This uncharacteristic mix-up ended a remarkable innings that had India in a dominant position. The incident sparked immediate discussion online, with video evidence of the play widely shared.

This unfortunate run-out denied Jaiswal the chance to reach his third Test double century in just his 13th appearance. He also became only the second Indian to be dismissed run out in the 170s, a list previously headed solely by Rahul Dravid. Despite the outcome, Jaiswal’s innings of 175 (256 balls, 22×4, 2×6) was a display of exceptional batting talent, reinforcing his status as a future star. His seven Test centuries before 23 years old are a testament to his early brilliance.

When Jaiswal was dismissed, India was in a strong position at 318/2, with Gill still at the crease. The solid batting foundation built by the openers ensured that the team maintained control of the match, even after the disappointing end to Jaiswal’s innings.
