As the Asia Cup 2025 concludes, India’s focus shifts to Test cricket, with a series against the West Indies scheduled to begin on October 2. The West Indies team is touring India for a two-Test series. The series starts only three days after the Asia Cup final, sparking discussion about the inclusion of players like Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad. The spotlight is particularly on Jasprit Bumrah, the star fast bowler, who has informed the BCCI of his desire to play in the series.

The Indian team selection for the Test series against the West Indies, commencing October 2, is scheduled for September 24. This series is part of the World Test Championship, and India is keen to gather valuable points. Given the series’ importance, the Indian team intends to field its strongest possible lineup. The availability of a star bowler like Bumrah is seen as a crucial asset. Consequently, Bumrah has conveyed his readiness for the Test series.

Reports indicate that Bumrah is available for the two Test matches scheduled in Ahmedabad and New Delhi. The first Test in Ahmedabad will be played just three days after the Asia Cup final. This raises questions regarding the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar. Will they rest Bumrah for the initial match, the whole series, or only include him for the second Test?

Bumrah’s decision is noteworthy because he participated in only three matches of the five-Test series during the England tour. His workload management became a topic of debate, with questions arising about the team’s handling of the star bowler. If Bumrah is available this time, the selection decision is anticipated to be closely watched. Furthermore, the pitches in Ahmedabad and Delhi are generally spin-friendly, potentially restricting Bumrah’s opportunities to bowl extensively.
