New Delhi: The Jharkhand Pavilion at the 44th Indian International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025 is particularly noteworthy this year, with the Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change prominently showcasing the state’s remarkable efforts towards a green economy and sustainable development. The display of sisal (agave) based products and innovations at the pavilion is acquainting visitors with Jharkhand’s emerging potential. In Jharkhand, the cultivation of the sisal (agave) plant is rapidly becoming a powerful vehicle for transforming the rural economy. This plant, thriving with minimal water and in adverse weather conditions, is a major source of natural fiber, widely used in the production of ropes, mats, bags, and various handicraft items. Its sap also holds growing potential for biofuel and clean energy production, while its medicinal and cosmetic uses have given new direction to local entrepreneurship. The ease with which agave grows even on barren and less fertile land makes it a significant component of land conservation, ecological restoration, and climate-resilient agriculture.

*Sustainable Livelihood Opportunities Being Created for Villagers Through Sisal Plantation*

In this context, Anitesh Kumar, SBO, shared information on the progress of the sisal project, stating that sisal plantation work has been completed in 450 hectares, and the department aims to increase this by another 100 hectares in the current financial year. He also mentioned that sisal production was 150 metric tons in the previous financial year, while a target of 82 metric tons has been set for the current financial year. Under the initiative of the Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change, large-scale sisal plantations are being undertaken across the state to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for villagers. The department is generating approximately 90,000 man-days of employment annually, providing significant momentum to the economic stability of rural families and green development.

*Jute Products at the International Fair Showcase Jharkhand’s Rich Handicraft Tradition*

The jute products displayed at the pavilion are also impressively presenting Jharkhand’s rich handicraft tradition. Eco-friendly jute bags, home decor items, and handmade utility articles crafted by local artisans reflect the state’s artistry, intricate weaving techniques, and the deep-rooted skills of rural craftsmanship. These products not only promote Jharkhand’s cultural identity but also create new opportunities for artisans in domestic and international markets.

*Jharkhand’s Stall at IITF 2025 Presents on a National Platform*

Jharkhand’s stall at IITF 2025 is presenting these efforts on a national platform to attract new opportunities for investment, market access, and technical collaboration. The state aims to strengthen sisal-based industries, empower rural livelihoods, and advance climate-sensitive development.
