Raipur: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar marked Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom day with a vehement condemnation of the BJP’s alleged promotion of hatred in Indian politics. In Surguja, where community groups have faithfully organized Gandhi memorial events for years, Kumar warned that self-serving politicians are poisoning the national fabric with division.
Speaking candidly to journalists, he invoked Gandhi’s timeless teachings on truth, non-violence, and interfaith harmony. ‘Today, as the world remembers Bapu, we see deliberate hate-mongering for political mileage,’ Kumar observed. ‘But an enlightened citizenry spells doom for such tactics.’
He decried the prevalence of religion-centric campaigns, contrasting them with Gandhi’s unifying ethos. ‘Politics today mirrors Godse’s mindset—we need daily tributes to Gandhi to purge it and reunite our diverse society,’ he proclaimed.
Turning to the BJP, Kumar urged introspection: ‘You know our history; why persist in this? Choose satya and ahimsa for development, not enmity.’ He cautioned that fostering fights between communities erodes peace, benefits no one, and ultimately damages the public. ‘End this now to protect our unity and ensure the nation’s enduring strength,’ Kumar concluded, rallying for a harmonious future.
