Karan Johar, a prominent figure in Bollywood, has expressed his views on the controversial AI-generated ending of the film ‘Raanjhanaa’. The film, which originally starred Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, was re-released with a new ending that used AI to depict a different outcome for the character Kundan. This modification sparked debate within the industry.

The re-release with the AI-altered ending has drawn criticism from many, including director Anand L. Rai, who is currently working on the film ‘Tere Ishq Mein…’ starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. Johar’s statement aligns with Rai’s concerns, indicating a wider discussion about the ethical considerations surrounding AI-driven changes in cinema.

Johar stressed the importance of contractual agreements and ethical conduct when altering films. He suggested that while a producer might have full rights, there’s still a need for moral responsibility. He also highlighted the importance of obtaining consent from the director.

Johar, who owns all his IP, explained that he would consult the director before making any changes. The implication is clear: any alteration without the director’s approval is ethically wrong.
