Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has addressed the ongoing speculation regarding a leadership change in the state, firmly stating that he will complete his term in office. The statement comes in the wake of a leaked video involving Congress MLA BR Patil, which has intensified the political discourse. The contents of the phone call, reportedly featuring Patil, have raised questions about internal dynamics within the Karnataka Congress. While Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has insisted that the Congress party is unified, Patil’s remarks suggest a different scenario.
During a recent discussion about his tenure, Siddaramaiah responded with confidence, saying, “Yes, I will. Why do you have a doubt?” He emphasized the stability of his government, asserting it would remain in power for the entire term and dismissing the allegations as “lies.” Siddaramaiah also clarified that the recent cabinet meeting in Bengaluru was part of a series of meetings held across various divisions in Karnataka, aimed at effective governance.
The controversy was further fueled by a video recorded during Patil’s visit to Mandya. In the video, Patil is heard implying that Siddaramaiah’s position as Chief Minister was a matter of good fortune. Patil also stated that he was instrumental in introducing Siddaramaiah to CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, implying a key role in his political ascent.
The current situation follows earlier comments by Minister KN Rajanna, who alluded to the rise of multiple power centers within the state Congress. Rajanna suggested this could lead to internal tensions within the party. Siddaramaiah had earlier dismissed Rajanna’s remarks, stating that there were no internal disputes within the party and urging people to disregard the minister’s statements.
