Karnataka High Court Rules in Favor of Social Media Regulation, Rejects X Corp’s Plea

The court asserted that social media content must be regulated, stating that platforms cannot operate in a state of ‘anarchic freedom.’ The court further explained that unregulated content potentially leads to lawlessness, while regulated content is vital for preserving order and liberty. The court clarified that all social media platforms must abide by the laws of India. Rejecting X’s free speech claims, the court highlighted that American legal frameworks are not directly transferrable to the Indian context. The court pointed out that X has to follow the rules in the USA, but it resists similar laws in India. The court concluded that order is essential for a democracy.
