Massive protests erupted in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, with thousands of citizens taking to the streets to express their discontent with the government. The demonstrations were in response to the restrictions on social media and the issue of government corruption. The situation became critical when protesters entered the Parliament building, resulting in police using tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protest is largely fueled by the youth of Nepal, who have long been frustrated by corruption, unemployment, and governmental control over civil rights. The government’s decision to ban social media platforms has caused widespread dissatisfaction among the populace, transforming the protest into a large-scale movement. The incident involving the Parliament building has raised questions about the adequacy of security measures. The protests have now extended to multiple areas of Kathmandu. The public is vocally expressing their opposition to the government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The city is filled with slogans such as “We want transparency,” “Give back our rights,” and “Stop corruption.” There have been clashes between police and protesters in several locations. In an effort to manage the situation, the government has implemented a curfew in critical areas. Additionally, there has been an increase in the deployment of security forces at government buildings and important sites.
