Raipur, September 29, 2025/The renovated pond in village Kishori of Sonhat Janpad Panchayat area of Korea district under Mission Amrit Sarovar is giving a new direction to rural life today. This pond, which was once unusable, has now become an important means for the villagers for daily activities, drinking water for animals, farming and livelihood enhancement.
*Rejuvenation of the 20-year-old pond*
The approximately 20-year-old pond in Gram Panchayat Kishori had become unusable due to neglect for a long time. In the financial year 2022-23, it was revived under Mission Amrit Sarovar on the proposal of the panchayat. The pond was renovated at a cost of about Rs 10 lakh and its water storage capacity was increased three times to 10 thousand cubic meters.
*Water reached 18 acres of fields*
Farmers around are getting direct benefit from the renovation of the pond. Farmers Manoj Raksel and Arvind Singh’s three-three acres, while Surendra, Laxman, Virendra and Anand’s more than two-two acres of land are now being irrigated. Apart from this, about one and a quarter acres of land of Jagbali Yadav is also being irrigated from this lake. The farmers told that now they have started taking Rabi crops along with Kharif, which has improved their income.
*Women earned 75 thousand rupees*
The Gram Panchayat has made Amrit Sarovar available on lease to the local women’s self-help group as a means of livelihood enhancement. The women members of Jai Maa Mahila Self-Help Group earned a profit of Rs 75,000 by selling fish from this pond in the last summer. The group’s president, Smt. Sonkunwar and secretary Smt. Jeerabai said that this year they are expecting a fish production of about Rs 3 lakh. This initiative is becoming a source of additional income and nutrition enhancement for women.

This Amrit Sarovar of Kishori Gram Panchayat has become not only a means of water conservation today, but also a symbol of the prosperity of farmers and the self-reliance of women. The villagers say that now they are seeing a permanent change in their lives.
