Hockey India celebrated the milestone of 150 international matches reached by Krishnan B. Pathak, the goalkeeper for the Indian men’s hockey team. The accomplishment was marked during the India versus Japan match at the Hero Men’s Asia Cup Rajgir 2025, which was held at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar. Pathak, originally from Kapurthala, Punjab, was recognized for his enduring commitment.
India began the tournament with a thrilling 4-3 victory over China, highlighted by a hat-trick from captain Harmanpreet Singh and a goal from Jugraj Singh. The team is focused on continuing its successful start.
Dr. Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, congratulated Pathak and emphasized his importance to Indian hockey in recent years. Tirkey highlighted the demanding role of goalkeeping and Pathak’s consistent performance at major events. He stated that Pathak’s journey, from participating in the 2016 Junior World Cup to becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for India, serves as a source of inspiration to young players. Pathak is recognized for his agility and consistency. He became prominent as part of the Indian junior team that won the gold medal at the 2016 FIH Junior World Cup in Lucknow. Pathak made his senior team debut in January 2018 at a Four-Nations tournament against Japan, quickly securing his place. He has since been a part of numerous historic victories, including the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy, the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games gold medal, and the 2023 and 2024 Asian Champions Trophy titles.
During the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League seasons of 2020/21 and 2021/22, Pathak was a key part of India’s defense, and his exceptional saves helped India secure podium finishes. He also participated in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where India won a silver medal, and the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023. Following the retirement of PR Sreejesh after the Paris 2024 Olympics, Pathak has become India’s primary goalkeeper.
