The confrontation between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is ongoing for the ninth consecutive day. The operation has resulted in the martyrdom of two soldiers. Officials have stated that on Friday night, during a fierce exchange of fire, four security personnel were wounded, and two of them lost their lives. This operation is considered one of the longest counter-terrorism operations in the past ten years.

Since the beginning of ‘Operation Akhal’ in Kulgam, a total of 11 security personnel have been injured. The operation is still in progress.

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army used social media to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kulgam operation. The Corps honored Lieutenant Colonel Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh for their sacrifice. Their bravery and dedication will always be an inspiration. The post further confirmed that the operation is ongoing.

The ‘Operation Akhal’ was initiated on August 1st. During the operation, three terrorists have been eliminated. Security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in a forest located in Akhal, South Kashmir, after receiving intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists. Following the initial gunfire on Friday, the operation was paused for the night. The security cordon was reinforced, and additional forces were deployed.

When the firing recommenced the next day, two terrorists were killed. The identities of the slain terrorists and the groups they belonged to are still unknown.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and are engaged in a persistent fight against the terrorists, who are believed to be hiding within the dense forests. Senior police and military officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat and the Northern Commander, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, are actively overseeing the operation round-the-clock.

Security forces are using drones and helicopters to locate the terrorists in the forest. Para commandos are also assisting in neutralizing the hidden terrorists. The terrorists are believed to be positioned in the higher reaches of the mountains, from where they are observing the movements of the security forces. This allows them to frequently alter their positions, making it difficult for the forces to locate and engage them.
