On the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a scintillating unbeaten knock of 173. Batting with poise and control, Jaiswal faced 253 balls, steering India to a formidable 318/2 by the close of play. He shared a strong partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who contributed a well-made 87, while KL Rahul added 38. Captain Shubman Gill remained at the crease on 20 not out.

This century was a significant rebound for Jaiswal following his 36 in the first Test. His innings demonstrated improved patience and a sharp eye for scoring opportunities. Following his outstanding performance, former India captain Anil Kumble showered praise on the young batsman, highlighting his hunger for runs and suggesting he has the potential to convert his current score into a triple century. “He’s certainly made up for that here,” Kumble remarked. “Once he’s in, he makes it count… Jaiswal now has a great opportunity, not just for a double hundred, but maybe even a triple hundred tomorrow.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal has quickly established himself as a prolific run-scorer in Test cricket. In his 25-match career, he has already surpassed 2000 runs, marked by seven centuries. His ability to convert starts into substantial scores is a key feature, with five of his centuries being 150 or more. Remarkably, his first four Test hundreds all crossed the 150 mark, a rare feat achieved by only Graeme Smith. This consistent record points to a batsman with exceptional scoring potential.
