A dispute has erupted in Domri village, Uttar Pradesh, as the municipal corporation moves forward with a plan to plant trees, leading to confrontation with local farmers. The corporation intends to plant trees on approximately 350 bighas of land, leading to protests from around one hundred families who claim the land. The farmers maintain they have legal documentation to support their claims. The municipal corporation asserts that the land is government-owned and slated for a large-scale tree-planting initiative. The farmers’ resistance includes a sit-in demonstration. The Samajwadi Party has criticized the decision, arguing that the corporation should provide adequate compensation to the villagers before any tree planting takes place. Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma stated that the land is legally classified as a sandy area and that the residents are occupying it illegally.
