    Opening Petrol Pumps Made Easier

Raipur, April 14, 2025 / In a major decision, the Chhattisgarh government has abolished the requirement for state-level licenses for petroleum retail outlets, i.e., petrol pumps. This change was implemented through a notification issued by the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department on November 14, 2024. Now, businesses only need to comply with the regulations of the central Petroleum Act to open a petrol pump. The previous dual-approval process has been eliminated, making it easier.

What Has Changed and Why Is It Important

Previously, to start a petrol pump, businesses had to obtain a purchase-sale license from the Food Department through the Collector. The license had to be renewed annually or every three years. The dual process of obtaining permission from both the state government and the center was time-consuming and expensive, and also increased paperwork. Now, compliance with central regulations alone will suffice. This will provide relief to businesses and make the process of opening petrol pumps faster and cheaper. This step is a major change in the direction of promoting business and simplifying regulations in Chhattisgarh.

    How Will Businesses Benefit

Now, petrol pumps can be started quickly with less paperwork and a single level of approval. New businesses, especially small entrepreneurs and oil companies, will be able to start their work without much hassle. This improvement will encourage the opening of petrol pumps in rural and remote areas, where fuel access is currently limited.

What Are the Benefits for the State and the Public

This change will increase the availability of fuel in Chhattisgarh, making petrol and diesel more easily accessible to people. Especially in areas where there are currently few petrol pumps, convenience will be improved. In addition, the opening of new petrol pumps will increase investment in the state and boost infrastructure development. This also fulfills the government’s goal of emphasizing ease of doing business and economic development.

    Chhattisgarh Becoming Attractive for Business

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai says that the Chhattisgarh government is serious about creating a business-friendly environment in the state. By simplifying regulations and removing unnecessary obstacles, the state is working towards facilitating industry and business and encouraging investment. This will not only benefit businesses but also provide better services to the people of the state. This decision of the Chhattisgarh government has made it easier to open petrol pumps. This step will not only increase fuel access in all areas but also strengthen the state’s economy.
