Liquor Scam Case: SC Cautions Against Trial Transfer to Chhattisgarh

The Supreme Court has signaled caution over a request to move the trial of a liquor scam case from Uttar Pradesh to Chhattisgarh. During Tuesday’s hearing, the bench raised hypothetical scenarios involving co-accused persons who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh. CJI Surya Kant remarked that the court must be careful not to pass orders that create serious logistical challenges for those who do not wish to travel long distances for legal proceedings. The court suggested it might consider granting exemptions from physical appearance rather than a complete transfer of the trial location.
