Vehicle owners across India can take advantage of the National Lok Adalat to settle their pending traffic challans on September 13, 2025. The Lok Adalat, which will be held in courts throughout the country, is designed to address minor traffic violations. These include infractions such as driving without a helmet or seat belt, speeding, improper parking, and not having a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Participants may benefit from reduced fines or complete waivers, saving both time and money and avoiding lengthy court processes. Serious offenses such as driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run incidents, and negligent driving causing death will not be included.
To participate in the Delhi Lok Adalat and resolve pending traffic challans or e-challans, online registration is required. The process involves visiting the Delhi Traffic Police website at traffic.delhipolice.gov.in and selecting the ‘Delhi State Legal Services Authority’ option. Applicants must enter details such as their full name, contact number, vehicle registration number, and pending challan information. After submission, a token number and appointment letter are sent via email, including a confirmation link and a token download link. Lok Adalat hearings will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM.
On the hearing day, vehicle owners must bring a printed appointment letter, token number, and original documents, including vehicle papers and challan receipts. Authorities advise arriving at the venue at least one hour before the proceedings begin. The Lok Adalat will offer waivers or reduced fines for minor traffic offenses, such as not wearing a seat belt or helmet, ignoring traffic signals, speeding, improper parking, driving without a valid PUC, missing number plates, lacking a vehicle fitness certificate, driving in the wrong lane, driving without a valid license, incorrectly issued challans, and other unspecified offenses.
Serious violations are excluded from relief. These include driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run cases, deaths due to negligent driving, underage driving, illegal racing or speed trials, vehicles related to criminal cases, cases already in court, and challans issued from other states. In Delhi, Lok Adalat sessions will be conducted at Dwarka Court, Tis Hazari Court, Rohini Court, Rouse Avenue Court, Karkardooma Court, Patiala House Court, and Saket Court. Additional sessions will take place at the Delhi High Court, District Courts, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Debt Recovery Tribunal, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and Permanent Lok Adalats.
Citizens will benefit from settling minor violations with reduced or waived fines, avoiding legal expenses, saving time, and allowing the judiciary to focus on more serious cases. This initiative supports traffic law compliance while expediting the resolution of minor disputes.
