Made in India Maruti Suzuki Jimny Gains Popularity Abroad, Especially in Japan

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is proving to be a hit in international markets, with exports far exceeding its sales within India. The Jimny, a rugged 4×4 SUV, was launched in India in June 2023 after its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Jimny’s three-door model has gained global recognition for its off-road capabilities, making it a sought-after export from India. While domestic sales of the Jimny are comparatively lower, exports have seen a substantial increase. Production of the three-door Jimny began in November 2020 at the Gurugram plant, targeting African and Middle Eastern markets. The five-door Jimny, designed for the Indian market, offers more space. The five-door Jimny was launched in the domestic market in October 2023, later expanding exports to include Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The Jimny has found particular favor in Japan, where it was launched as the Nomade by Suzuki Motor Corp in January 2025. With the implementation of new GST rates, prices for the Maruti Jimny have been adjusted, with the base model now starting at ₹12.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end model is priced at ₹14.45 lakh ex-showroom. The Jimny comes equipped with modern features and a 4X4 system.
