The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated significant actions following the deaths of children linked to cough syrup. Dr. Praveen Soni, a pediatrician at the Civil Hospital in Parasia, Chhindwara, has been suspended after being arrested.

Dr. Soni’s involvement in the deaths of 11 children, allegedly due to a toxic Coldrif syrup he prescribed, has led to widespread outrage and an ongoing investigation. The investigation determined that the prescribed drugs negatively impacted the infants’ kidneys, resulting in fatalities.

Health Commissioner Tarun Rathi said in the suspension order, Dr. Soni, was engaged in private practice and prescribed medications. Many children experienced high fever and difficulty urinating after taking these medications. Some of them died.

SP Ajay Pandey said that a case has been registered against Dr. Soni. The doctor prescribed Coldrif medication. The manufacturing company from Tamil Nadu, Srisan Pharmaceuticals, has also been made an accused, and the doctor is in police custody.
