Maharashtra’s political arena is experiencing a wave of significant changes. A series of crucial political occurrences unfolded in Delhi within a single day, leading to an in-depth analysis of their political implications. Uddhav Thackeray, a pivotal figure within the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), participated in the India coalition meeting in Delhi and delivered a strong condemnation of the central government. Simultaneously, Supriya Sule, a prominent leader of his ally, the Nationalist Congress (Sharad Pawar faction), met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day. The timing of Supriya Sule’s meeting with the Prime Minister is a focal point of discussion in Delhi’s political circles, particularly because it occurred instead of her participation in the India coalition meeting led by Rahul Gandhi. This has been interpreted by political analysts as a strategic move. However, Supriya Sule also attended Rahul Gandhi’s dinner. Furthermore, Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha MP from Uddhav Thackeray’s party, paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister, which is seen as significant given the circumstances. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, was also in Delhi. He met with the Prime Minister, accompanied by his family, and held a dedicated discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in front of all the MPs. Sources indicate that Shinde also addressed the “political instability” in the state. In recent times, reports of differences between Shinde and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have surfaced frequently. Consequently, Shinde’s visit to Delhi, including the family visit to the Prime Minister, is raising questions in political circles. Supriya Sule, representing the Nationalist Congress (Sharad Pawar faction), has previously displayed a softer stance towards the central government. She expressed sympathy following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Sharad Pawar has also been observed providing indirect cooperation to the central government on multiple occasions. Now, with Uddhav Thackeray openly criticizing the central government and his ally Supriya Sule meeting with the Prime Minister, the question of the unity within the Maha Vikas Aghadi arises. The India coalition is also experiencing internal discord due to these developments. According to sources, several leaders have privately expressed their dissatisfaction with the timing. Political experts suggest that the cohesion of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra is under strain. The events – Uddhav Thackeray’s critique, Supriya Sule’s meeting with the PM, Shinde’s family visit, and Priyanka Chaturvedi’s courtesy call – collectively suggest that Maharashtra’s political environment is more turbulent than it appears. The key question is whether the Maha Vikas Aghadi remains united or if new political alignments are emerging, potentially reshaping the political landscape in upcoming elections.
