A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been inked between the Bihar government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop six airports in the state. The signing took place on Monday at Bihar Niwas in New Delhi, in the presence of Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. The airports earmarked for development include five owned by the Bihar government – Birpur, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Munger – and the AAI-owned Muzaffarpur airport. These airports are part of the UDAN scheme, with each receiving ₹25 crore in funding from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Before the signing of the MoU, a Pre-Feasibility Study was completed by the Bihar government. The MoU was formalized after securing approval from the Bihar Cabinet. The signatories included Executive Director Anami Pandey from AAI and Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Devre, the Director of Civil Aviation for the Bihar government. The event was attended by key officials from both the state government and AAI. This collaboration is a crucial step towards enhancing regional air connectivity and promoting economic and social progress, particularly in the less accessible areas of Bihar.
