In a major counter-narcotics success, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police have intercepted a large consignment of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 45 crore in the Saitual district. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two individuals suspected of being part of a drug smuggling ring.

Acting on specific intelligence about drug movement on the Ngopa-Saitual road, a joint operation was swiftly executed. Security forces established a vehicle check post, leading to the interception of a vehicle carrying the illicit substances. A subsequent search uncovered 15 kilograms of banned methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as Yaba, with a street value estimated at Rs 45 crore.

The two individuals apprehended during the operation have been identified as Rabizul Haq and Naasiruddin, both from Barpeta, western Assam. The seized drugs, which are understood to be smuggled from Myanmar, along with the arrested individuals and the vehicle, have been handed over to the Saitual district Police for further legal action and investigation.

This seizure highlights the continuous efforts by security forces to combat the drug trade in Mizoram. The northeastern states, particularly those sharing a border with Myanmar, are crucial transit routes for drugs entering India. The highly addictive nature of methamphetamine makes such seizures vital in protecting public health and national security.
