A decisive joint operation by the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police at Tatanagar Railway Station has led to the apprehension of a key figure in a ganja smuggling racket. The collaborative effort resulted in the seizure of 17 kilograms of high-value cannabis, estimated to be worth approximately 8.5 lakh rupees. The suspect, identified as Uday Kumar alias Mantu, a resident of Hariharganj in Palamu, was intercepted during the operation. Intelligence gathered suggests the ganja was transported from Jarapada station in Odisha’s Sambalpur division. The smuggler’s route included a bus journey through Daltonganj for onward supply. Based on specific tip-offs, the joint team successfully cornered and arrested the suspect as he moved towards the ticket counters after arriving by train. A search of his bags revealed the significant quantity of illicit ganja. The arrested individual has reportedly confessed to being part of the drug trade for an extended period. Authorities are now meticulously examining his call records and known associates to trace the broader network involved in this illegal enterprise. Security and surveillance measures at Tatanagar station are being ramped up to deter and prevent further smuggling activities.
