A massive solar plant is set to be built in Yamuna City, thanks to approval from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The project, involving an investment of Rs 8,200 crore, will be situated on 200 acres of land in Sector 8 near the Yamuna Expressway. The project will be undertaken by SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited and will have a capacity of 5 GW for solar cell production and 5 GW for solar module production. SAEL Industries Limited, the parent company, is a key player in the renewable energy market. This new unit will increase the total solar module production capacity to 8.5 GW. The plant will use state-of-the-art TOPCon technology to manufacture solar cells, which will then be integrated into solar panels. The project has been classified as ‘Ultra Mega’ by YEIDA, due to its substantial investment, making it one of the largest in the region. It will be developed as a greenfield project. Following the issuance of a Letter of Intent (LOI) by YEIDA in February and subsequent approval from ‘Invest UP’ in July, land allocation is advancing rapidly. The transfer of the 200 acres of land is expected this month. Company representatives have already been coordinating with YEIDA officials regarding the necessary documentation. The project is expected to create around 2,500 jobs, boosting the solar energy sector. SAEL Solar currently has over 6.7 GW of solar projects across India, some of which are already operational and others are under construction. In addition, they have an existing 3.5 GW of TOPCon solar module production capacity. The proposed plant will utilize photovoltaic technology, utilizing the process of applying specific coatings and electrodes to silicon wafers to convert sunlight directly into electricity.
