Excitement gripped Poonch as the district police rolled out the Police Martyrs Volleyball Tournament for the first time. Tuesday’s final match delivered thrills, with Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Club overpowering Shaheed Mumtaz Memorial Club 3-0 to lift the trophy.

SSP Shafqat Hussain led the prize distribution, motivating athletes to aim higher. Chatting with journalists, he spotlighted local talent. ‘Poonch kids have made us proud on big stages worldwide. I thank our sporty youth for their passion.’

The SSP was effusive in his felicitations. ‘Kudos to Manjeet Singh Memorial for their stellar win. Shaheed Mumtaz Memorial earned respect with their gritty run to the finals. These stars are destined for national duty ahead.’

Event convener Mohammad Tariq Khan shared the deeper intent. ‘This is our way to remember police martyrs. Sports also combats youth drug addiction—let’s get back to playgrounds for societal good.’

Athlete Ayaz Ahmad Madni appreciated the border area’s boost. ‘Police stepping up is praiseworthy amid sponsor droughts. It promotes drug avoidance and talent showcase. I call on youth: step up, shine, and elevate Poonch’s name.’

Beyond the scores, the tournament symbolizes resilience, channeling energy into positives and honoring sacrifices in Jammu and Kashmir’s frontier zone.
