Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce a hybrid version of the Fronx, representing the company’s focus on hybrid technology. The company is reportedly working on the hybrid variant of the Fronx and the vehicle has been seen during testing. This suggests that the launch will be soon.
The test model was equipped with LIDAR sensors, suggesting that the hybrid Fronx may have an ADAS system, and potentially with Level-2 ADAS capabilities. The e-Vitara, the first Maruti vehicle to have Level-2 ADAS, indicates that Maruti Suzuki intends to enhance safety features in other models as well.
The prototype was observed around the same time Suzuki Motor Corporation released its powertrain roadmap. The car looks like the current petrol version, with a hybrid badge at the back. This is the hybrid version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based crossover, sold through the Nexa showroom network.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx hybrid is expected to use a new Super 48V hybrid system. It will combine an electric motor with a new 1.0-liter or a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine. Design and features will remain largely the same, and the Level-2 ADAS features may be added, too.
The company has not released the power, torque, and fuel efficiency figures. The launch timeline has not been disclosed, either. However, the car has been seen during testing without camouflage, so the launch may happen within this year. The Fronx is the fastest-exported crossover from India, having exported 100,000 units within 25 months from June 2023. The hybrid version is also expected to be exported to major international markets.
