Former Australian batsman Damien Martyn is currently in an induced coma at a Queensland hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for meningitis. The former international star became ill on Boxing Day, prompting his hospitalization. His former teammate Adam Gilchrist confirmed the serious health development, noting that Martyn is receiving excellent medical attention.

Gilchrist conveyed that Martyn’s family is aware of the widespread support. “He is getting the best of treatment and [Martyn’s partner] Amanda and his family know that a lot of people are sending their prayers and best wishes,” he told News Corp. Former colleague Darren Lehmann expressed his solidarity on X: “Lots of love and prayers sending @damienmartyn way. Keep strong and fighting legend. Love to the family.”

Cricket Australia is also offering its full support, with CEO Todd Greenberg wishing Martyn a speedy recovery. “I’m saddened to hear of Damien’s illness. The best wishes of everyone at CA and in the wider cricket community are with him at this time,” Greenberg remarked. Martyn was celebrated for his elegant batting, representing Australia in 67 Tests and 208 ODIs. He was instrumental in the 1999 and 2003 World Cup victories and notably scored 88 not out in the 2003 final. His career statistics include 5346 ODI runs and 4406 Test runs, with 13 Test centuries.
