As the IPL 2026 season approaches, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has been identified as a marquee player. During a mock bidding event, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a substantial investment, acquiring Green for Rs 30.5 crore, signaling their strong interest.

Although initially registered as a batter due to a clerical error, Green remains a prime target. Intense competition is expected between KKR and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when the real auction unfolds at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena. His all-round skills are highly sought after.

Speculation suggests that CSK might have been prepared to spend as much as Rs 25-28 crore on a middle-order all-rounder. Realistically, however, their spending in the official auction could be closer to Rs 20 crore, allowing for tactical acquisitions of other essential players to build a balanced team.

In the mock auction, KKR also added Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana to their roster for Rs 13 crore. This move is aimed at shoring up their death bowling, a critical area for T20 success. Pathirana is anticipated to be highly effective in the closing overs under KKR’s guidance.

CSK, through their mock auction representative, secured the services of Sarfaraz Khan for Rs 7 crore, citing his exceptional current form. His aggressive batting and match-turning potential are considered well worth the investment. CSK views him as a key addition to their batting arsenal.

CSK’s mock auction approach also saw them targeting key areas like spin and pace bowling. The additions of leg-spinners Rahul Chahar and Wanindu Hasaranga are intended to provide depth in spin bowling. Furthermore, the signing of pacer Anrich Nortje brings significant pace and yorker capabilities to their attack. The strategic mix of experienced players and emerging talents like Ayush Mhatre is designed to foster a culture of fearless and expressive cricket.
