Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reinforcing India’s call for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi shared information about the discussion on social media, emphasizing the need for a solution to bring stability to the region. He stated that he was pleased to speak with President Zelenskyy and hear his perspectives on recent events. Modi communicated India’s consistent position regarding the need for an early and peaceful resolution. India is dedicated to contributing to this effort and to furthering its bilateral relationships with Ukraine. The conversation happened amidst trade disputes between India and the US, and allegations that India’s oil purchases from Russia indirectly support Moscow’s stance against Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the US has been unfairly targeting India, citing similar actions by other countries. The official response also indicated that the United States imports certain metals from Russia. Prior to this call, Prime Minister Modi had conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Following his conversation with President Lula, Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships, covering trade, energy, technology, defense, and health.
