In a recent NDA parliamentary party meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the controversial Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which was implemented by former Prime Minister Nehru. The Prime Minister stated that Nehru, in his actions, essentially divided the nation by ceding a considerable amount of water to Pakistan through the treaty. Modi noted that Nehru himself later acknowledged the treaty’s failures. He also characterized the agreement as being against the interests of farmers. During the meeting, Modi introduced CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate, as a seasoned leader from the OBC community, pointing out their long-standing friendship. Modi also criticized the Congress party, stating that they did not truly respect the constitution. He highlighted that Nehru had agreed to the Indus Waters Treaty without consulting the Cabinet. The Prime Minister affirmed that his government is working to rectify Nehru’s mistakes and will ensure that the farmers do not face injustice.
