Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached a new milestone, becoming the second-longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history for consecutive terms. Completing 4,078 days in office on Friday, he has now surpassed the record held by Indira Gandhi and trails only Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first Prime Minister.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi has matched Nehru’s achievement of winning three consecutive Lok Sabha elections, having been elected in 2014, 2019, and 2024. A spokesperson from the ruling party highlighted the developmental achievements during Modi’s tenure and drew a contrast with previous administrations, characterizing them as having periods of arbitrariness. The spokesperson also condemned a statement made by a Jharkhand Minister as inappropriate and indicative of negative political sentiment.

This prolonged service establishes Prime Minister Modi as the longest-serving Prime Minister from outside the Congress party and the first to successfully complete two full terms. This record is noteworthy when compared to former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who, despite being elected three times, did not complete a full second term.
