The monsoon season’s reduced temperatures often lead people to use coolers to combat humidity. However, doctors advise that using coolers incorrectly during this period can result in serious health issues and even hospitalizations.

The elevated humidity in the monsoon allows bacteria and fungi to multiply rapidly in cooler water that isn’t changed frequently. Breathing this contaminated air can lead to respiratory illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis. The presence of moisture also increases the likelihood of electrical short circuits in the cooler. Rain exposure can cause electric shock, which makes covering the cooler crucial.

Furthermore, the dirty, damp pads and tank can release polluted air, causing infections in the nose and throat. This is particularly hazardous for children and the elderly because their immunity is weaker. Additional symptoms include eye irritation, skin rashes, and fever.

To stay safe while using a cooler during the monsoon:

    * Change the cooler’s water every day and clean the tank.
    * Keep the cooler out of the rain.
    * Avoid running the cooler constantly.
    * Ensure your home has good ventilation so fresh air can circulate.
    * See a doctor right away if you have trouble breathing or a high fever.

Using a cooler during the monsoon isn’t forbidden, but carelessness can lead to serious illness. By keeping your cooler clean, maintaining it properly, and using it with care, you can stay cool without putting your health at risk.
