The onset of the monsoon season often sees an increase in the use of coolers, with many users unaware of the potential hazards associated with this practice. The core function of a cooler involves utilizing water to cool the surrounding air. However, the air already contains a significant amount of moisture during the rainy season. This leads to an increase in indoor humidity when a cooler is in use. This increased humidity level has direct implications for health. The conditions within the room can become conducive to the rapid proliferation of fungi and bacteria. As a result, individuals may experience a range of health issues, including difficulty breathing, coughs, colds, and heightened allergic reactions. Medical professionals highlight that prolonged exposure to coolers during the monsoon season increases the risk of joint pain, fungal skin infections, and allergic reactions. Individuals with existing conditions like asthma or allergies are at a higher risk. Furthermore, the combination of moisture and water during the rainy season elevates the risk of electrical hazards. Water from the cooler could potentially reach the motor or wiring, leading to short circuits or the possibility of electrocution, posing a significant safety risk. To ensure safety, it’s advisable to limit the use of coolers during the monsoon season. If necessary, using the cooler without water can provide airflow without significantly raising humidity levels. Regular cleaning of the cooler is crucial to prevent the growth of bacteria. It is recommended that households with young children, elderly individuals, or those with allergies avoid using coolers during the rainy season. Also, ensure the electrical wiring and plugs are regularly checked to prevent short circuits. While coolers provide relief during hot weather, using them with water during the monsoon season can pose potential risks. It’s advisable to prioritize natural airflow or use fans when possible.
