North India is experiencing a significant drop in temperature after enduring intense heat for weeks. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is moving towards northern and central regions. The weather department forecasts that India will receive above-average rainfall during the latter part of June. This comes as a relief to many areas still battling a heatwave. Regions such as West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh will experience torrential rains from June 17th to 20th. Other affected regions include Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan. The IMD has also issued warnings about strong surface winds over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam. Delhi has been placed on a yellow alert, with rain expected this week.
