The box office saw a major competition between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’, which were released on August 14, 2025. Both movies, highly anticipated, had successful first weeks, generating strong revenues and becoming major releases. Following the first week, where both movies surpassed Rs 200 crore, the competition continued into the second weekend as they aimed for further success.

‘War 2’ began with a strong opening, earning Rs 52 crore on its first day. The momentum continued on Day 2 with Rs 57.85 crore. The film’s earnings declined over the weekend, earning Rs 33.25 crore on Day 3 and Rs 32.65 crore on Day 4. A sharp decrease was observed on Day 5 with Rs 8.75 crore, but the film regained some stability on Day 6 with Rs 9 crore. Mid-week collections further declined to Rs 5.75 crore on Day 7 and Rs 5 crore on Day 8, leading to a Week 1 total of Rs 204.25 crore. In its second week, ‘War 2’ earned Rs 4 crore on Day 9 and an estimated Rs 6.25 crore on Day 10.

Early estimations suggest the film earned approximately Rs 6.50 crore on Day 11, reaching a total of Rs 221 crore in eleven days.

‘War 2’, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’, features Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. It also stars Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana.

‘Coolie’ had a blockbuster opening, taking in Rs 65 crore on its first day. The film maintained strength on Day 2 with Rs 54.75 crore. During the weekend, collections stood at Rs 39.5 crore on Day 3 and Rs 35.25 crore on Day 4. A steep drop occurred during the weekdays, earning Rs 12 crore on Day 5, Rs 9.5 crore on Day 6, Rs 7.5 crore on Day 7, and Rs 6.15 crore on Day 8. Despite the drops, ‘Coolie’ concluded its first week with Rs 229.65 crore. The second week opened with Rs 5.85 crore on Day 9 and a significant jump to Rs 10.5 crore on Day 10.

Preliminary data indicates that ‘Coolie’ collected Rs 10.75 crore on Day 11, achieving a total of Rs 256.75 crore in eleven days. The film has been a major commercial success, despite the drop in weekday earnings.

The story of ‘Coolie’ revolves around Deva, a former gold smuggler turned coolie. He strives to regain his former glory by reviving his old gang using stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, which leads to unforeseen consequences.

The cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan has a cameo appearance. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
