E-Evidence app effective from July 1 under new laws. Investigation officers are uploading videos from the app. Different options for recording in e-Evidence app.
Shashikant Tiwari, Naiduniya, Bhopal. After the new form of 3 laws came into effect in the country from July 1, e-evidence collection has also been started in Madhya Pradesh in accordance with them. For this, the e-evidence app prepared by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is being used by investigation officers at every level. The use of this app has started in the state since a week. In this, the investigation officer prepares videos from the mobile and uploads them on the app.
In-app recording option
For each type of recording, a different option has to be selected in the app. For example, there will be different options for recording the scene of incident, victim and witness. This recording will be saved in Digi Locker with the login-password of the policeman in the name of the same option, which can be viewed later as per the requirement.
Apart from this, online summons are also being sent. With the new law coming into effect, its use has started everywhere in the state. Summons are coming online to police stations from the court. The accused or witnesses whose mobile numbers or mail IDs are available are also being sent summons from the police station via WhatsApp or mail.
Additional Director General of Police Chanchal Shekhar has claimed that Madhya Pradesh has been leading in the country in adopting the e-evidence system. In fact, after changes in the old laws, digital evidence has been recognized under the Indian Evidence Act. In this regard, all the states have to upload information along with videos and photos on the e-evidence application.
Investigation officers in the state have installed this application on their mobile phones. After uploading the recording of the crime scene, Google location of the crime scene, the video of the statements of the complainant, the accused and the witness, the investigation officer will upload his selfie from the crime scene itself.
There are around 25 thousand investigation officers in Madhya Pradesh
There are about 25 thousand investigation officers in all the police stations of the state, who were trained about e-evidence even before the new law came into effect. There are preparations to give them tablets by the end of this year. According to sources, there is a delay in purchasing tablets due to budget constraints. State Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) officials said that on the suggestions of the states, NCRB has also made some changes in the e-evidence application.
The use of e-evidence app has started in the state. We are the first state to use this app. Apart from this, the state is also at the forefront in issuing online summons. – Chanchal Shekhar, Additional Director General of Police, SCRB
