Raipur, November 27, 2025 / Mrs. Saroj Podiyam, a resident of Sukma district, hails from a family affected by Maoist violence. In 2009, the murder of her father-in-law by Maoists plunged the family into severe economic crisis. In this difficult situation, the government showed sensitivity by providing them with housing under the ‘Nava Bihan’ scheme and supporting the family’s security and livelihood by appointing her husband, Mr. Rakesh Podiyam, as a Nagar Sainik (soldier).

Mrs. Saroj Podiyam was already doing tailoring work at home but could not expand her business due to a lack of capital. When she learned about the Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana (PM SVANidhi), she applied to avail the self-employment opportunity.

On November 24, the State Bank of India, Sukma, sanctioned a loan of Rs 15,000 to her. The check was distributed by the Chief Municipal Officer, Mr. P.R. Korram, and the Chairman of the Sukma Municipal Council, Mr. Hunga Ram Markam.

After the loan sanction, Mrs. Saroj Podiyam advanced her tailoring business with renewed enthusiasm and confidence. Today, with her hard work and the support of government schemes, she is supporting her family and presenting herself as a self-reliant and empowered woman in society.

Mrs. Saroj says that the positive change in their lives is due to the assistance provided by the government and her strong willpower.

Her story demonstrates that with the right guidance, the benefits of government schemes, and personal determination, one can overcome any difficult situation and move towards success.
