Customs at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport delivered a series of stunning victories against smugglers between January 21 and 29, 2026. The Zone-III commissionerate’s proactive measures—spot profiling, APIS analytics, and intel—resulted in contraband seizures totaling over ₹35 crore, spanning drugs, bullion, gems, and forex.

Narcotics led the charge with four hydroponic weed recoveries totaling 26.522 kg from Bangkok arrivals. Valued at ₹26.522 crore, the drugs were trolley-bag specials, leading to immediate NDPS arrests.

Gold busts numbered five. The January 27 highlight: 1470g 24K gold (₹2.1cr) body-carried by a Bangladeshi transit flier and relayed to an HRPL staffer—both now in custody. Four more cases yielded 2162g (₹2.89cr) via apparel hides.

A diamond cache of 10,660 carats (2132g, ₹1.81cr) lurked in checked luggage. Forex grabs from three ops hit ₹1.18cr.

‘Our integrated surveillance is intensifying to protect this vital entry point,’ declared the Commissioner. Employing cutting-edge tools, the team vows uncompromising action.

These interventions cripple overseas cartels, especially in high-stakes drugs and gold. As India’s frontline airport, CSMIA’s defenses are battle-hardened. Public advisory: Stay legal, shun smuggling—consequences are severe.
